| In the 1920’s,
a small group of Freemasons
formed The Aged and distressed
Brethren’s Comfort Fund
Committee, visiting sick and
elderly Freemasons in institutions.
In 1945 when M.W. Bro. Frank
Whiddon became Grand Master,
he gave the Committee permission
to receive donations from Lodges,
which enable the provisions
of comforts and ultimately,
accommodation for less fortunate
Masons. In 1947 The Frank Whiddon
Masonic Homes of New South Wales
(incorporating the Aged and
Distressed Brethren’s
Comfort Fund), was formed and
has since evolved as the Frank
Whiddon Masonic Homes of New
South Wales, a wholly charitable
organisation dedicated to the
care and accommodation of Aged
and Disabled Persons regardless
of race, religion, nationality
or Masonic affiliation and which
became a public company, limited
by guarantee on 22 April 1998,
currently operating 18 aged
care facilities throughout New
South Wales. |
